Basic Digital Concepts: Pixels and Color Spaces
United Photo/Custom Touch (301-937-5510).
Beltsville, MDThree sessions, Tue. Jan. 17, 24, 31 (7:30 - 9:30 p.m.), 2006.
This three session class explains the basic concepts of pixels and color spaces in digital photography. Understanding these basics is crucial when shooting digitally as well as when editing images in the computer. After this class you will be better able to print your own pictures or discuss options intelligently with a photofinisher. The stress is on the concepts; learning how to implement them will be taught in future classes at United Photo/Custom Touch.
Have you ever e-mailed a photo, only to find it was huge on the recipient's screen or choked their e-mail inbox? Have you printed out a web image only to find it was of poor quality? Do you wonder what your digital camera means when it asks what sort of file to save, or how big to make the image file? Have you tried printing an image that came out with colors all wrong? Do you want to learn Photoshop? Then this class is for you.
Topics include:
- What is a pixel?
- Megapixels and computer file sizes.
- Pixels in image capture vs. pixels in a print.
- How many pixels do you need to print to a given size?
- Resizing images.
- File formats: JPEG, TIFF, and RAW.
- What is a color space?
- Profiles.
- Color management.
The following four classes at United Photo/Custom Touch will help you master operation of your camera and improve your aesthetic eye. You will learn to make evocative, personal images, rather than simply taking snapshots. These classes will help you to make the pictures you want to make, not the pictures the camera decides to make for you. Digital and film shooters are equally welcome. You may attend any class individually, or take the comprehensive series at a discounted price.
