| Rongbuk Monastery, at about 17,000', is the highest monastery in the world. It is almost literally in the shadow of Mt. Everest, seen here in the background. You can also see the barrenness of the land in Tibet; most of my travels were through terrain like this. I was there just at the onset of the rainy season, though, and I am told it gets more lush after the rains come. |
