Nam-tso is the largest lake in Tibet, but I was impressed more by its beauty than its size. The water is turquoise and the lake is surrounded by snow-capped mountains. The mountains caused their own weather: there were often thunderheads ringing the lake, but the sky over the lake itself was perfectly clear. When that happened it felt like being in the eye of a hurricane. This photo of part of the Tashi Dor mountain range caught the setting sun washing the clouds and mountains in a warm, cloud-filtered pink light. The foreground ridge is in the yellower light of the direct rays of the setting sun, making an interesting color counterpoint to the distant range. |
