| You've seen this object before. Delicate Arch is probably one of the most photographed natural features in the country. Go there at dusk and you find yourself elbow-to-elbow with other photographers, all lined up waiting for the right light. In addition, the place is crawling with hikers. This made it a trifle difficult for me to shoot anything worthwhile when I went there near sunset. But go there at dawn, and you have it all to yourself. (Well, I had to share it with the one other photographer willing to get up early enough to make the hike in complete darkness into the Arch.) I tried to find new ways to express its beauty. This is my best attempt, the graphic silhouette distilling the essential shape of the Arch against the colors of the predawn sky. |
