Clearing Winter Storm, Meysan Lake

(order ID # CT35-02457-D)

I was caught in an early season snowstorm while backpacking at the beginning of October in California's southern Sierra Nevada. I was camped at Meysan Lake at the base of Lone Pine Peak, and was set for the weather save for one crucial element: snowshoes. Without snowshoes I faced a daunting descent through boulder fields covered in 18" of snow. One slip into an invisible gap between boulders, causing a broken leg, would have put me in dire straights. My mood was therefore a little strained. But when the clouds started to clear and the sun came out, the psychological lift was immense. I tried to capture some of that joy in this pristine snow scene.
