| Having grown up in Iowa, how could I resist the allure of the corn lily? It is eerie how closely the leaves of this mountain plant resemble that of sea level corn. When I saw my first corn lily I bemusedly thought of science fiction tales of parallel evolution. Quite apart from my personal connection to the plant, it lends itself to endless possibilities of abstract composition. I especially like this one, a swoop and flow of line and shade in an intense visual dance. |
